JOE KUBERT 1926-2012
I’m deeply saddened to learn Joe Kubert passed away today. To say that he was a giant in the comic industry is a gross understatement. Joe was not only one of the greatest storytellers in the history of comics, he passed his knowledge on to generation after generation of young artists who attended The Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, just as he took time during his editorship at DC Comics to coach young guys me like on the finer points of visual storytelling.
Above and beyond all that, Joe was one of the nicest, most charming guys I ever met. Always happy to talk to fans and ready with a smile and a handshake that said he was genuinely glad to see you. When I introduced my first wife to Joe at a convention back in 1974, I handed her the camera with 18 exposures and asked her to take pictures at the show. When the film was developed, I saw that she
had taken 12 pictures of Joe and 6 pictures of me… with Joe.
Who could blame her.
Our deepest condolences go out to Joe’s family and friends.
