FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In light of the post-holiday surge in Covid cases, I’m reluctantly forced to cancel my appearance at the St. Pete Comic Con in St.Petersburg, FL January 8-9.

I’m very sorry to disappoint fans and organizers, but it’s just not worth the risk. We will definitely reschedule and look forward to seeing everyone at a later date when the world becomes a safer place.

GEORGE PEREZ – GOING IN STYLE

I’ve put off writing this, because I just couldn’t bear the thought of my old friend George Perez’s diagnosis of stage 3 pancreatic cancer. That changed today with George’s statement released on BLEEDING COOL.

George showed true grace under fire in his message to his family, friends and fans as he spoke of his plans and preparations for the brief time he has left. There’s no trace of self-pity in any of it, which is about what you’d expect from George if you ever had the pleasure of meeting him.

I first met George at a small convention in Atlanta in May of 1982, the weekend STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK opened. The organizers sent people to purchase tickets and stand the line to hold places for the guests so we could attend the first showing. George was as excited as a little kid as he bowled over the crowd and settled into a seat in the exact center of the theater. You could hear him cheer when the film started and at every climactic point after that. That kind of joy shows in everything George does.

After a full day of signing and drawing for fans, George settled in for serious work. I watched in amazement as he began penciling pages for THE NEW TEEN TITANS without any preliminary sketching or block-in, as if he saw the image in his mind and projected it onto the paper, then simply traced what he saw. He started with a head, then built a figure and another… and another… and another until he had a panel full of action. Every line was put down with confidence and surety. I don’t think he owns an eraser.

Oh, and he did it lying on his back, like Michelangelo. Appropriate.

That same confidence and directness shows through today as he prepares for the next step in his journey. He outlined plans for his final appearances and beyond. He knows what lies ahead and he faces it with courage and grace that I admire, determined to live his life to the fullest. There’s a lesson in this for all of us.

After all, life is drawing without an eraser.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hi, Guys –

I want to let you know about the Kickstarter launch of a project that I have contributed to.

I had the pleasure of working with author Austin Hough on his original comic book called The Masters These are comics like comics used to be!

Austin’s villains are all inspired by famous artists of the 20th Century, and he has assembled a literal Who’s Who of ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s artists and creators working on interior pages and covers, for which I am contributing a pin-up/poster recreation of a cover featuring the final appearance of the Golden Age public domain hero Airman, reimagined just for this book!

Please click on this link:  https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/themasters/the-masters?ref=d8wt0q

to see all the great things that Power Comics is doing and to support my contribution to The Masters!

GREEN ARROW: THE LONGBOW HUNTERS SAGA OMNIBUS VOLUME 2

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hi, Guys –

I thought I’d give you a sneak peek at the cover for GREEN ARROW: THE LONGBOW HUNTERS SAGA OMNIBUS VOLUME 2. Since this volume includes Mark Ryan’s time travel story set in the time of Robin Hood, I designed the theme around the Tree of Life and the Chalice Well cover at Glastonbury. It worked out perfectly, leaving an oval shape where the circles intersect which was the perfect spot for a portrait vignette on the 2 1/2″ spine.

This volume clocks in at 1480 pages and is available for pre-order now on Amazon.com with a release date of November 9, 2021.
